This book was a little slow, but I enjoyed the story. Just too much detail and description - probably fitting for a book about a painter, but too much for me, and I skimmed some of it.

I appreciated that the sadness in this book was death - with the hope of eternal life. While there was sympathy for those dealing with civil rights issues and that sort of thing, I wasn't in the mood to handle a more heavy sadness in the area of injustice. Death I can handle.

Also, even though it was dragged out and I skimmed a lot of it, I found the Christian aspect of this book more believable than most. Maybe because I can relate more to service and Christian giving.

I loved Robbie's character. Nice guy, and what do you know - he's nice to black people too! And giving and kind, and maybe-not-so-boring-just-think-of-his-kisses.
