Anne of Avonlea (Anne of Green Gables, #2)

** spoiler alert **
Something was a little off in this one as compared to the original. Maybe it was the lack of Matthew. Maybe it was the fact that I couldn't understand what Dora was doing in this book other than making me feel terrible that Anne and Marilla didn't like her as much as Davy because she actually behaved herself. Maybe it was Diana and Fred's out-of-left-field, where-did-that-come-from engagement. Maybe it was that Davy sounds like he's headed straight for the Canadian version of San Quentin and Paul Irving actually seems slightly deranged rather than just imaginative (and sounds a bit too much like Little Lord Fauntleroy). The book seemed much more like a series of individual happenings than an overall story. While I suppose the same could be said for AoGG, this felt much more disjointed somehow. Still a pleasant book to read, but, well, not as good as the first one. I see why the miniseries lumped this one in with the next few to keep things coherent.
