This was the first Lorrie Moore book I read and I became an immediate fan. I can say with certainty that she and Alison Bechdel are my favourite writers. This collection of short stories kept me up at night--laughing. The dialogue is surprising and so lively, and her characters seem like collages of people that are easy to relate to. I never which of her books to recommend to people first. I read this one first and loved it, but I think it's also her most developed work to date.
