This book was graphic in the with many torture scenes or descriptions of torture that occurred. It was a bit crucial to the story since the lead 'human' was a plastic surgeon who was kidnapped to fix the face of a tortured 'Darkyn' (Vampire) by the Brethren (ex-catholic priests). Apparently the Brethren liked to maim and torture the Darkyn past the point of recognition. They did it alot so you got many descriptions. It was pretty action packed but no real happy ending. It was a bit to gory for me and I wouldn't recommend it for that reason. I almost stopped reading about 80% through when a female 'bad guy' was torturing another woman with implements. It was really sick. I liked the story and the writing but I don't think I will ready any more in the series.
