Padavi's review of Saturday
Saturday by Ian McEwan
Excellent depiction of 'a day in the life of...' The story moves from the personal to the universal, the mundane realities of every day life to the broader scope of war, religion and poetry. Arnold's 'Dover Beach' - quoted in the novel - sums it up bequtifully. And it made me look again and see things in that poem that I hadn't realised before.
