wow - can we say the chinese gabriel garcia marquez?

the movie was powerful, but if you read this before you saw the film, you might think the movie would pale in comparison.

Justine i just ordered the movie from ebay and I can't wait!

message 2: by Tom (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tom did you see it yet?

Justine not yet. it's coming from hong kong and hasn't arrived. :[

Justine i watched the movie last night. i really like zhang yimou's films but you're right. this movie does not do the book any justice. it was an ok movie but i was disappointed.

yeah the movie is chronologically linear and simplified. i guess it may have been too hard to weave back and forth.

try reading "Obsessed" by Liu Heng. you might like it.

Justine that's kind of what i figured. i mean i definitely commend zhang yimou as a director and i like a lot of his other work. i was just so touched by the book but the movie didn't show the relationship between the characters that I was hoping to see.

thanks! i'll add that to my "to-read" shelf right now!
