it was amazing
bookshelves: magicrealism, fiction

When Melanie's parents die in a tragic accident she and her sister Victoria are sent to live with her tyrannical uncle Philip, a strange man, verging on a psychotic obsession with the toys he creates and the family of his wife Margaret who cannot speak. The story is largely about Melanie's journey into young adulthood and contains motifs from classical mythology, fairy tales, etc. The story is surreal and unusual, but a compelling read.
