The strongest part of these books is the characterization and the way all of the characters seem so real which is why it is so disappointing when the two leaders of the opposing factions make no sense and seem to have no rationalization to their actions. Following my critique of the last book it basically seems that President Snow and President Coins sole purpose in the novels are to move the plot along by making atrocious decisions that everyone else must react to. But those actions did not coincide with the people portrayed in the brief meetings we have of them, the descriptions of other characters or the fact that they have supposedly held on to power for a very long time.
