94% of what I have read over the last 5 years have been the "classics of literature" and other All Stars and must-reads. I have very rarely been disappointed. When i have been disappointed, it's when a book is advertised as a NYTimes bestseller and I assume that means the same thing as a classic. It doesn't. Basically, I've become spoiled.
This was very evident with this book. It's good, it's captivating, it's interesting. It doesn't suck. But is it a classic of literature? No, not really. And that made me not like it because it had to stand up to Tolstoy and Steinbeck and everyone else awesome, and it really doesn't.

But! On the less negative side, I think this author handled a super complicated plot very well. In terms of plot complicated-ness he could hold his own with Dosteovsky, even if he couldn't with character development. I didn't really care about or like the characters all that much. I won't say much more because it's one of those thrillers where details will give it away, but....not a bad read for the beach or vacation or something.

I have an extra copy if anyone wants it, PS.
