A classic ghost story. It sent a chilling feeling through my body, made the hair at the back of my neck rise, made me hold my breath in anticipation, and evoked some deep feeling of sadness I didn't think possible in a ghost story. There were no over detailed descriptions that in some books destroy the spiritual atmosphere. It was just the right amount of hints, darkness, isolation and grief, to catch the character's frame of mind.

I decided to give it four stars instead of five due to some predictable moments, but over all the creepy, uncomfortable story line is something rather unordinary.

Cecily I agree that parts of it are rather predictable, but it didn't bother me unduly, as the whole book is echoing Victorian ghost stories anyway.
