While I'm not immediately compelled to read the other Mas Arai mysteries, Snakeskin Shamisen was a quick, satisfying read. Mas Arai is a wonderfully believable amateur detective - a reticient, semi-retired Japanese American kibei gardener living in Los Angeles. This particular Mas Arai mystery ties in Okinawan and Japanese Peruvian history, which tickled my spot Asian American Studies.
