Mickey Haller is the lawyer, working out of the back seat of his licoln towncar, on foreclosure cases. One of his clients is accused of murder and he is called to relpresent her. All evidence points directly at his client so he sees his job is to creat reasonable doubt, "in dubio pro reo". The plot details the case with interrogation of witness after witness and the judged looking for a speedy trial. He does not want to loose any time on motions with no substance. The surprise you will find is at the end and that is why you must read this book.
