this is the 2nd book in the series, the 1st being deeper than the dead. this book grabs you and hangs on right from the beginning! it's a fast paced gripping story and i, for one, had a hard time putting this one down.

i can't say which book i enjoyed more, this or the 1st one...i think i enjoyed them both equally. one thing i will say - you really ought to read 'deeper than the dead' first - it's not ABSOLUTELY necessary but i think you'll miss something about this book if you don't.

i'm glad that she ditched the constant references to the 80's. it was SO ANNOYING in the first book. but, mendez' uncanny predictions for crime solving technology in the future - obnoxious. yeah yeah, he wants a computer & a criminal database and everything esle thinks he's CAH-RAZY for wanting anything more than a fax machine. i guess i get that she is trying to make mendez look progressive but for the love of pete, find a different avenue!
