Read from February 15 to May 15, 2011

Somewhat dated and difficult to read -- I had to take it out of the library twice -- I read this mainly for its historical perspective but it made me think about my own life as a partial housewife (worked part time at a professional job) and about my husband's (somewhat frustrated) expectations for my providing him with services.

So I am glad I read it even though parts of it seemed 'too Freudian'. I was in high school when this was published and lived major changes to restrictions on women during my college and early career years. I would have liked to been able to discuss this with my mother. She was an teacher who married in her late 30's and insisted then that she not be expected both to work and to be a farmer's wife. But she did go back to teaching when I was 12, which my father supported and which put her in a much better position when he died when I was 19. Actually I would have liked to discuss this with my father as well.
