Only China Mieville could make me this excited about the difference between a simile and a metaphor.

It's important, you guys.

One of my favorite things about this writer is his refusal to pander to readers. If you like a lot of exposition to explain worldbuilding, you will not like Mieville. He is not a handholder. The fact that this is a novel about language only makes the whole experience of....experiencing it that much more mindbend-y.

This isn't his fastest paced work, but it is (as usual) more proof that he is a super awesome genius who should be way more widely read. This is what science fiction is meant to do, folks. Right here.
