This was one of the most moving and profound books I have read in a long time. The writing is subtle but beautiful, the plot is perfectly paced, and the story left me thinking about it (and chattering about it to everyone I met) long after I shut the covers.
Very specific favorite points: 1) the romance is beautifully and artfully executed. It was never obvious, but very moving.
2) every single character seemed like a real person, and Ruta Sepetys treated each with the dignity a real person deserved. The way the plot wove around the importance of love and forgiveness was masterful and left me close to tears.
I highly, highly recommend this book.
