This was a beautiful collection of short stories on life, love, magic, family, suffering and death in Haiti. It was an intimate introduction to Haiti and a tribute to human spirit and resilience. I also enjoyed how all of the female characters in each of the short stories were somehow related to one another, tying the book together. The book had me won over completely until the last short story, which seemed to go on too long. Otherwise, a great introduction to Danticat.
