Read from June 01 to 03, 2011, read count: 1

I'm going to keep this brief since there isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. *clears throat*
I think the reason I waited so long to read this series is because I just couldn't imagine myself enjoying reading about an eleven-year-old boy and his adventures at a school of wizardry. I thought it would be too juvenile for my taste. I was wrong, of course.
I can honestly say that I loved every minute of this. It's a spectacular little romp with funny, courageous, and endearing characters that you can't help but love.
It has talking chess pieces, singing hats, a giant three-headed dog named Fluffy, a hilarious giant with a dragon fetish, a master wizard that's just a little bit crazy, mail carrier owls, goblins running a bank, unicorns, centaurs(!), trolls . . . and probably much more that I'm forgetting.
And then there's the lead characters: Hermione, the young scholar who starts out prim and up-tight but soon becomes a true friend; Ron, the boy who has little money but who has an abundance of family and loyalty to his friends to make up for it; and then there's Harry, the boy who starts out sleeping in a closet and ends up being a hero. Harry is kind to those that deserve it, fearless when it counts the most, and wonderfully intelligent. What's not to love?

In regards to the ending: (view spoiler)

FAVORITE QUOTE: "But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them."

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Sandy So fun that you can read them all in a row without years between each book!

(I did that once for a re-read when I was stuck in bed for a week. The story flows so well when you can jump straight to the next book.)

Wishing you a brilliant literary journey. =)

Lora Oh, thanks, Sandy! I figure it's time I see why (almost) everyone loves this series. :)

message 28: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Jones That's my favorite quote from that book too :)

Valerie This is exactly why this will be my first crack at reading these books. lol I'm a little excited but after watching one of the films on HBO this weekend I knew I had to finally give them a try.

In my opinion the books are way better than the movies. If you liked the movies I think you will defiently love the books :)

Sandra oh my, I am so, so very jealous of you! I can´t even remember the first time I read the Harry Potter books, and I want to feel that feeling I got when I read them for the first time, one more time. Just one more time, is that to much to ask?

I genuinely think that getting a memory loss would be kind of awesome, in a very horrid way, but then I could read them all over again, not knowing that Quirrel were the bad guy or that Tom Riddle really were Voldemort and all this other plot twists you´ll experience while reading the books.. haha..

ps, sorry if my English is bad, not my first language..;)

Hannah Ahh, Sandra, same here. :/ My mom read me the books before I entered preschool so I was kind of reared on them, and can't remember a time when I didn't love them :) (I'm 16 now) ^.^

India Woodward mmmn I did the same but when I did read it I regretted ever being doubtful! it s my 2nd favourite book

message 34: by Kate (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kate I didn't want to read it at first but I eventually gave in and became obsessed!

Siuan83 I love this quote too and in my opinion the first is the best book of all the series .

message 36: by Ruby (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ruby I just finished reading the chapter that ends with you're favorite quote haha. I loved that quote as well and I love the book!

Michiko goosebumps on that fave quote... that's where all the adventure...begins!

Susana Those books are legendary! I've read them when I was 11 years-old and I actually believed and waited for the Hogwart's letter to arrive at my door. During that summer I would check the mail every single day. Every single day I got disappointed :( then I finally realize that I was a muggle but I still got to read the books, so was ok :)

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I LOVE Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban the most. I think it has the right about of seriousness and fun!! I read the entire series at least 20 -24 times!! I hope you love every minute of it just like I did!!

I. Loved. This. Book.
It really makes you want to read the whole series. And I don't understand how anyone can rate it anything other than 5 stars! THE BEST BOOK EVER!
Well, actually, I liked the 7th book best, but still.
I definitely, definitely recommend this book.
I have to say, I was pretty disappointed at age 11 when I didn't get a Hogwarts letter...
;)

Tania ♡♥♡♥♡ Love this books ♡♥♡♥♡♥

Julianne I really enjoyed this book too...:D

Ophelia I have just joined this website, and your review was the most recent one I have seen on here today for HP1 - I usually skip number one because the rest are just so much more fantastic, but as I re-read them this summer I will be making sure number one, is, quite rightly so, the first one I turn my attention to. It excited me that your curiosity got the better of you, how did you find the others I wonder?

Besides book 1, I have only read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, plus the first 200 pages of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I enjoyed book 2 (my review of it is here), and I plan to finish book 3 sometime before the end of the year. So far I've liked the first 200 pages of it more than I did book 2.
