This is the second Barker/Llewelyn book I have read although it is the third in the series. In this story, the majority taking place in Limehouse, several people from the Chinese Triads to Her Majesty's Secret Service are searching for a book that contains the secret of a previously unknown martial art. Barker finds the book through a pawn ticket discovered on the body of his murdered former assistant and must fight off those who are desperate to own it. Some of Barker's background and his connection to the Chinese Imperial Court is revealed but he successfully dodges the question as to his ethnicity (do the blue spectacles hide Oriental eyes?)
An interesting entry in this continuing series.
