Whew - what a relief to be on the other end of this book! I had wanted to read it for so long and now am glad that I did, but it was not a novel that I can say I really enjoyed. I can see why it is a classic, there were certainly gems tucked into this story, places where Tolstoy's descriptions of the human condition seemed timeless and touching, but overall this book was difficult to get through. I will confess I do not have much background knowledge about 19th century Russia, and the political pieces of the novel were completely boring and lost on me. At some point I became very adept at skimming. I wonder how I would have felt about this book if it had been compacted into 200-300 pages instead of 800+?

Danica This has been sitting on my shelf for a long time and I've yet to read it. How are you enjoying it so far?

Erin I've been wanting to read it for awile now, too. I'm only about 100 pages into it, but am enjoying it so far!

Danica You've inspired me to dust it off my shelf and read it!

Marika Gillis Okay, I'm jumping on the bandwagon! Hope I can finish this one and still meet my goal of reading 52 books this year. :} (Yikes! I just looked and it has 838 pages!)

Marika Gillis I'm so proud of you for finishing (and I'm a little jealous)!! I'm starting to feel my desire to read come back a little but I still just don't think I need to attempt this one again. Maybe in 18 or so years?! :)
