A Far Country

** spoiler alert **
I couldn't really get worked up either way about this novel - it's just there, and neither good nor bad.
A young girl in an unnamed South American(?) city goes to city to find her older brother and to make money to support her impoverished family, who are suffering from the drought in their area of the country.
And that's pretty much it. I found the deliberate vagueness about where the novel is set a bit irritating, and must of the rest of the book was equally vague - we end up knowing less than when we started and there's a general lack of resolution at the end.
It kind of reminded me of The Grapes of Wrath in some ways, apart from the fact that I loved that book and am indifferent to A Far Country.
So in my opinion, nice try, but no cigar...
