Chosen (House of Night, #3)

Let me preface this review by saying I know that many people love PC Cast's books. They're bestsellers, they get great reviews.
I am not one of those people. I couldn't stand this book, or any of the other House of Night books that I checked out from my local library, where I take all my risks. They have beautiful covers, promising descriptions, and I wanted to like them, but I instead was left with the feeling of wanting to throw Chosen into the nearest household appliance and press the on switch.
The style of writing, while I'm sure was an attempt at a realistic teen's voice, was very distracting. Zoey herself irritated me to no end, she couldn't stop complaining (at least you got birthday presents, woman!) and being critical of everything and everyone.
The romance, if you want to call it that, in this book was just awkward. There were no less than three male candidates, and the actual love scenes were just sloppy. She kept saying she was a ho, and the whole time I said, "Yes. Yes, you are a ho." Yet I get the feeling that I was supposed to say, "Oh no, you are the most perfectly perfect main character with the most awesomest pretty tattoos (that you can't stop talking about)! You can do no wrong!"
The book got a little more interesting near the end when the plot finally showed up for a cameo, but by then it wasn't enough for me to really care. So all in all one shiny tattooed star for HON.
