In a word: inane. In two words: absurdest humor. If one knows who Michael Ian Black, one can't help use his voice and mannerisms to internally narrate each essay which really adds to the experience. His cleverness comes through in two different essays regarding a high school coach's outcome of a football game - it's pretty brilliant humor. While previously I had mentioned the "Taco Party" essay being my favorite this was easily taken over by the hilarity of the "I No Longer Love You, Magic Unicorn." The Unicorn entry describes a 30 year-old man's "Dear John" letter to an invisible magical unicorn he had befriended as a child. I can't do it justice describing it, but it's the combination of using Craig's List to find the unicorn a new friend as well reflecting on the time it peed on the drapes has me laughing so hard I was coughing. This book probably isn't for everyone... but if you enjoyed The State or Stella and generally very absurd, inane humor you'll enjoy this.
