I felt like the whole book is backstory. The world is a bit overused generic fantasy but well developed. The writing is simple yet very compelling and the story is predictable yet engaging.

Despite it's flaws I enjoyed it much. Looking forward to the next in the series in hopes that the actual story will at some point begin.
