Elie's story is incredibly sad. He lost so much. I appreciated his ability to show his own weaknesses - or what he felt was weaknesses when his father was dying. In reality he was showing what systematic torture does to a person. I think this is a very important book to read in order to understand the horrors of the Holocaust. Some biographies I've read seem detached from the true horror of it, but Elie tells it like it was - at some level. I'm sure that reading about his experience in no way details everything he felt, experienced, and saw.
