John Hart has a talent for interweaving past and present as evinced in all of his books. This one is no exception. The set up is familiar == two brothers abandoned and taken in by an orphanage almost laugable in its gothic horribleness, who are separated due to the strength and foresight of the older boy just as they're about to be granted a different kind of life. There are many strands to this story that come together very neatly at the end, but it is immeasurably page turning and a great read for the summer.
