it was amazing
bookshelves: sci-fi
Read from June 01 to 02, 2011

Deadline is the second book in the Newsflesh trilogy and keeps the hits coming after Feed while avoid avoiding all the standard pitfalls that trap many sequels. Grant keeps the story arcs twisting and blood pressure rising without ever allowing the book to become a mockery or unbelievable. The characters continue to be real and so strong that they pull the readers further into their story. I love the fact that the reader gains a deeper perspective on the plot while understanding that the third book will provide answers to questions that we have to ask but probably shouldn’t. The fear of infections and its implications for the political development of our society remains a key theme. Be aware that the author is not attacking any political parties but is making reasonable fictional conjecture as to what might actually happen in the world. I’m eagerly awaiting Blackout, the final book in the trilogy, even though my husband may attempt take it first as he had to wait while I read Deadline.
