Henry James would not get published in 2011 as a new author. He would get a good editor. But tastes were different in the early 1900's. So, given that, I'd say the themes in the book hold true and that seems the moral issue of how far will you go and who will you hurt for money. Jane Austen would never know a character like Katy Cody who so cleverly, and without remorse, manipulates people to her ends. In the end, she walks away from a man who completely corrupts himself to do her bidding. I hated reading this book and didn't understand a lot of the ramblings, but it was worth the discipline of coming to the end.
