I have decided that urban fantasy isn't for me after all. (Not that I can't tell that just by looking at the cover/format of the book. I guess I have this sense of judging a book by its cover?) I'd been reluctant to read this and only did because I mistakenly bought the third book in the series thinking it was the beginning of a new series by Richelle Mead (that one's cover was slyly more YA-looking), but eventually I powered through it especially since I'd already bought it.
Anyway, yeah, it isn't for me. I really don't care about explicit sex scenes at all. I don't understand why people would want to read them. It does nothing to me but make me uncomfortable. And there are a lot in this book. The story isn't all that bad once I got used to the universe, but the whole super powerful heroine complex is there and it's one of the things I can't stand. When a character is super special and super powerful I just lose interest on them, main character or not. And the love interests? Really, she had to go with the bland Gary Stu - the Ideal Sexy Lover as opposed to the more interesting alternative? Okay, then. I'm getting tired of liking the other part of the love triangle that the author doesn't support more, but authors should really stop going for the perfect boyfriends.
There are some bits about mythology in which Greek and Roman mythologies were confused and that bothered me because isn't that like... basic knowledge? Everybody knows Greek/Roman goddesses.
It's not bad and probably worth more than my three stars, but it isn't for my taste.
