I can definitely understand the hype over this one. Delores Price is a great character, one you'll always remember. The novel moves fast, covers a lot of ground, and never lost my interest. There are serious issues amidst the pathos, including rape, death, divorce, overeating, and AIDS. Lots of wonderful supporting characters, including Delores's grandmother, Larry and Ruth, Mr. Pucci, and Dotty. Larger questions of love, loyalty, and self-image are posed and sometimes answered. A few unbelievable plot points, but hey, real life is strange too.
