Another book that I couldn't put down. I read 98% of the book in one night. The remaining pages I read the following day. The book was written with plenty of introspection, not a lot of judgement (although the author has been accused of this, I didn't sense a lot of judgement when I read this), and a successful merging of multiple events involving multiple people and groups.
Even though I knew the outcome of this story, I felt suspense in every page, every chapter. It's almost as though the author creates the hope that our wishful thinking can produce a different outcome. Perhaps it is his own wishful thinking or remorse that we read throughout the story.
I was mortified by the disaster, astonished at the choices that individuals made. Again, I did not feel swayed by the author's viewpoint, and I do not know if my final conclusions agree with his own. People are left to die on Everest....this is apparently something that is a fact about Everest expeditions--everyone risks...more
