I loved this book! The entire novel is a letter of South American adventures addressed to the author's brother, but the author is nameless till the end. He is a surveyor who works for Don Carlos who is a famous naturalist. The relationship is one of an ultimate fan working as hired help. Please pay attention to the author's condition... The end is a shocker!
Norweigan authors usually do not understand humor like the English authors, but they have have a way of twisting the plot into a new perspective that makes the reader question his sanity. There is one mild sexual scene and some swearing... but it is appropriate for each adventure as a real life situation.
High school students will enjoy this classic.
