Colin and I had this as our travel book (I read aloud to him while we're driving). Given how long it is, it took almost five months to get through it. It could easily be a third of its length and be a much better book. There are way too many passages mentioning the physical layout of the scene (tulle reeds! always with the tulle reeds!). Great idea, fun story, poor novel. Also doesn't come anywhere near close to satisfying or winning over the history geek part of me.

Bottom line: Not a good audio book, but works for when you need one big fat book for traveling.
