** spoiler alert ** a strange book. would probably make a better movie if the screenplay writer made some improvements in character portrayals.

the author didn't make Lena as human/likeable as she had the potential to be (and should have been.) also the romance between lena and keller just sort of appeared; there was no indication of an attraction or developing friendship. ex-husb was somewhat of a caricature, as were the 4 catty co-workers. unresolved relationship with her parents, esp dad - i felt that i was left hanging. the whole raised-by-apes idea was just weird.

the best thing about the book (SPOILER!) was that the author gave a life and voice to these poor "trash" babies (unwanted newborns dumped into trash cans)who are found, and raised by others
