I really didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. Very compelling and fast moving. It may not be the most sophistocated in terms of structure and language but Ms. Millhiser's story-telling abilities more than make up for that.
I am naturally empathetic to any female characters in books I read and I couldn't help but put myself in the character's shoes. If this book accomplished nothing else with me, it commanded me to treasure the freedom of choice I enjoy in my own life. That I could do or be anything I wanted to. That I could have a relationship with whomever I choose. To not live in fear of the future or regret of the past.
