Roland Smith is such a great adventure writer. I previously read Peak; Cryptid Hunters is just as appealing and fast-paced. I may have to seek out his other teen novels as well. Hand this to your reluctant readers.

Cryptids are "mythical" animals that many people have reporting seeing, things like yeti, Nessie, giant squids.

Marty and Grace are 13 yr old twins. When their parents disappear on a photography expedition, the twins are sent to live with an uncle they had never even heard of. It turns out that Uncle Travis is a cryptid hunter - he searches out mysterious creatures to try to protect them from poachers, developers, and opportunists. His current mission is to protect a creature like a dinosaur that lives in the Congo. An evil animal theme park "scientist" is also after the creature so he can replicate its DNA. The kids accidently end up on their own in the Congo and must survive in the jungle until they can be rescued.

In addition to the action, both of the characters must do some soul searching and deal with their fears and revealing truths about their past.
