This book is an interesting investigation, not only of the subject/reporter relationship, but of the various definitions of truth via language--fiction, non-fiction, legalese, tape-recorded conversation, etc., and how writers must develop the truth of others. It also looks at the presence of the "I" in reporting. It is fascinating in its consideration of the duplicity of journalists, the journalist's need for his own story to be told in the telling of the subject's story. All this through a close look at a libel case filed by a murderer against the journalist invited to write a book based on the murderer's trial, etc. Additional examples are excellent.
