Rarely does a book actually bring me to tears, this one did.

A war era tale of love, loyalty, and loss. Alternating between current day 1986 and the 1940's we learn about the life and loves of Henry Lee. I found the intricate details of war and it's waves of destruction to be heartbreaking. It's ripples outlasting the supposed end of the battle. The lines of race, ethnicity, and loyalty are blurred as people are forced to choose sides. Families destroyed. Lives destroyed. Loves lost. One of the most poignant, beautiful books I have read in a long time.
