Gen knows he can still anything, and in the wine shops of Sounis he has no problem bragging about that fact. He decides that to prove his ability he will steal the kings seal ring. He succeeds, but only to show it off the next day in another wine shop. He is immediately thrown in jail. Through clever foreshadowing you know that there is more going on behind the lies. The Kings councilor, the magus, needs Gen to steal something for him, and drags the poor complaining thief across two countries to get it. Only to face a few impossible problems. Will any of them come back alive? If they do, will they be the same?
I love the foreshadowing in this. I have read this book close to three times now, and each time I pick up another detail that the author hinted to that would be important later. There is no questionable content. The characters quickly pull you in and don't leave you disappointed.
