Kind of morose and unenthusiastic novel, in which the author seems wearied by all of the characters and plots. Some of them have quite a bit of promise, the plot could provide a better ecological payoff than the one that (I certainly hope) is coming in future volumes, and the marine scenes could have had a lot more detail. It's as though this is the outline for a good book; now I'm waiting for someone to come fill it in so can be fun.
