His physical descriptions of characters are fantastic. His scenes are vivid. All sorts of family intrigues, secrecy, deception, flaws-- sprawling through the generations. Russia, London, New York. Strange how he enters a chapter with "he" "she" not naming the character until later, so that the reader has to feel around to get his or her bearings. Not a five star but good.
