Jane Austen: A Life
by Claire Tomalin

Still hard to get an idea of who Jane was from this book, but it sounds like that's typical of anyone trying to investigate her life. I felt like more tim was spent on detailing her brother, nieces, and acquaintances than Jane herself. However, Jane's sister destroyed most of her correspondence, so we don't have a lot to go. I enjoyed reading this to get a picture of how very different Jane's life was from anything today, and to get something of an idea of her life, as frustrating as it is trying to piece it together.
