I loved this recount of the world war between living and undead, "World War Z". What kept this fresh was the constantly changing viewpoint: it's written as a series of transcriptions of interviews with survivors, arranged so as to tell the chronological tale of the origins, spread, and eventual conclusion to the zombie problem. Ingenious, and well-told--highly recommended.
