I found this book rather lacking and unimaginative. The whole time while reading I couldn't help but think, "the author simply took the Harry Potter concept and tried to copy it with a few tweeks".

I didn't care for any of the characters. I never identified with any fo them, accordingly, I didn't care what happened to them.

The most annoying part was how pro-leftist this book was. I got tired of hearing how evil humans were. It starts off by 'The People' (just think of the name) calling humans Mud People and that it was because of Mud People that they were forced to live underground. There are so many overt references to how humans are killing the planet and how evil we are and that we must answer for our atrocities, now this book is for young readers. Nothing quite like brainwashing them at a young age to the left.

There were some moderately entertaining parts and that is the only reason it didn't get a 1 star. As a whole I didn't really like this book and wouldn't recommend reading it.

Gill Have you actually read Harry Potter? To imply that Colfer is ripping off JKR is like saying that Terry Pratchett is ripping off Douglas Adams! Both series have elements of fantasy but they are nothing alike.

And since when does environmentalism = left-wing?!

Agreed! I would understand if this was about Percy Jackson (I like PJ but it is a lot like HP) but Artemis Fowl is nothing like Harry Potter :/

Tabitha Swoonk I think all HP fans should take a chill pill

Lauren H I don't see much resemblance at all between Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl. Please explain the similarity that you see. Just because they fall under the same genre doesn't mean that the author of this copied J.K. Rowling. Seriously.

Megan (Megan Likes Books) Artemis Fowl has nothing to do with Harry Potter... Not even a little bit.

Christine Luo Sure, they're both fantasy...but other than that? Even the things that make it fantasy are different! Fairies and wizards are two different things. Just to make that clear.

Hernan Hesse i agree with you ;)
