Read from May 28 to June 12, 2011

I met the author at the 2011 Sydney Writers festival, a great guy, funny and eloquent. The book is turning out to be a well written, easy to read tale. I've read some of his short stories, powerful, as they should be. Our book club is doing Bereft now, should have lots to say about it.

Bereft is a strange book, it has many strange characters in it. Many situations are simply unbelievable and I don't think that helps the books, it does make it seem a bit silly. However, it is well written, though the end I found weak and for me it just trailed off.

I have to say the way the stories about two 12 you girls in this did give off strange and at times unsettling feel, though it never crossed over its set lines.

I wouldn’t read it again, but would recommend it.
