liked it

I finally finished a book by Thom. Pynchon !

(I mean, read half of "Against the Day." Read a few pages of "Gravity's Rainbow.")

He's kind of hard to read, right?

This one should--or should've been easier...And it was, a little.

It's a detective novel. The P.I. kind of a beach bum in the 60's, L.A.

It's still kind of thick and long.

He just goes all over, talking to a whole bunch of people.

(It actually felt like what real crime-solving might be like: not very productive, and fast.)

And some of the people / dialogue interesting. The writing's good, of course.

Still felt a little slow, wanted to skim.

But pay-off--and ending--pretty good, satisfying. Pretty likable and interesting, overall.
