it was amazing

I will start with two caveats:

First, there are a few pretty intense scenes of violence and abuse in this book. The protagonist has not spoken a word since some unrevealed tragedy in his past, and, of course, when the tragedy is revealed, it's pretty awful. (Didn't require me to dock the book a star, but still awful.)

Second, this is a dude book. In the wake of The Name of the Wind, I've been trying to pay more attention to this. There's really only one deep, complex character, and that's the male protagonist. The supporting cast has a few women, but is mostly men, and nearly all of the women are romantic interests of some sort.

Okay, if you're still with me this is an amazing book. Hamilton weaves two timelines together, and both are great stories. All of the pieces fall into place perfectly. A truly compelling character with believable motivations and actions. I was blown away.
