** spoiler alert **
With all the repeated insistence by the main female character on being independent and bucking the bland futures of her fellow female werecats, I was really hoping that she'd actually do so at the end and give me another shifter series to read along the lines of Patricia Briggs excellent Mercy Thompson series. Unfortunately, she instead settled for exactly what she fought so hard against for the entire book and the author made it even more unpalatable by having her boyfriend, Marc, act like an arse during all the wrap up scenes when they were together. I was really dismayed. Especially since there were a lot of options no one even considered from paying her to be a surrogate mother to artificial insemination to produce more girls. There was far too much romance and not enough action in this book, but it would have been redeemed if she'd made a different choice at the end *sigh*
A character's misspelled name really grated on me. I liked how tough she was, but there was a certain unreality to the whole, long basement scene. Her comments were too flippant for the situation she was in. I did like that it was her second try before she figured out how to partially shift because that added realism. I dislike that the author used rape as such a... plot device. Especially the cousin's bouncing back right after the trauma.
In short, there was a lot of problematic things about this book and very few redeeming features.
