White Teeth
by Zadie Smith
by Zadie Smith
this is my favorite fiction novel. i heard she has a new-ish book out, like in the last two years. her second book wasn't very good.
i haven't read this book in a few years, but i was completely blown away by it when i first read it. i've read it at least 3 times and it really gets better every time. it's not for everyone, my mom said it used too many swear words to keep her interest.
it's just a book that moves smoothly through generations and wars and colonial identities and gender politics. i think a lot of people dismissed zadie smith after her second work wasn't as well received as Eggers' and Foer's (um, racism/sexism anyone?), but i think White Teeth is still a completely relevant powerhouse read.
