This book is an African Folktale and a great way to introduce the concept of folktales. This story explains the reason why mosquitoes buzz in people's ears. It follows the story from beginning to end and then in a clever way follows the story from end to beginning when the King Lion calls the animal council before him to find out what happened to Mother Owl. The book has a lot of repetition, so it lends itself well to having students get involved in reading the story along with the reader.

One red flag is that the story has a lot of nonsense words that may need explaining. They represent the sounds that the animals make as they move around, but this may need to be explained before reading the story.
